Moisture assessment is a complex topic for when it comes to high-voltage transformers. It’s difficult to interpret the water content of oil or paper insulation by looking at individual dissolved water measurements or time-series data, and increases in water solubility due to aging of oil make it risky to rely on relative saturation calculated from dissolved-water measurements based on the assumption that the oil is like new.
Check out this article by Dr. Oleg Roizman of Intellpower and our own Dr. Jim Dukarm to find out how a thermodynamic approach to assessment of water in transformers can solve these problems.
